Standard
Gateway Support
iSCSI Enterprise can be used in business environments
with structured networks, and it allows for remote management and
optional data access via Intranet or Internet.
DHCP
Server Support
The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a communications
protocol allowing network administrators to centrally manage and
automate the process of assigning IP addresses in a network.
Secured
Administration Access
iSCSI Enterprise provides Secured Administration Access, requiring
administrators to use SSL to access and configure the iSCSI software.
Open-E iSCSI Enterprise also allows users to assign different administrator
rights to multiple administrators.
Multiple
Network Interface Card (NIC) Support
iSCSI Enterprise supports the use of two or more network cards to
access separate sub-networks. It also allows users to select the
services to be enabled on a specified NIC.
Adaptive
Load Balancing
Adaptive load balancing enhances performance by automatically routing
data through several alternative paths or storage adapters as application
needs change.
Adapter
Fault Tolerance
Adapter Fault Tolerance assures greater reliability by providing
that a secondary storage adapter automatically takes over if the
primary storage adapter fails.
Multi-Snapshot
with the scheduling function
Multi-Snapshot with the scheduling function, available in iSCSI
Enterprise, allows users to take a snapshot at a specified time
(e.g., automatically every hour). If a user accidentally deletes
or incorrectly modifies a file, he can still recover the data from
a previous snapshot image.
Multiple
Logical Volume Groups
Logical volume groups allow storage administrators to create logical
storage pools that span multiple physical disk drives. With its
support of multiple logical volume groups, iSCSI Enterprise makes
it easier to meet the changing needs of users and applications while
making the maximum use of available physical disk space.
Online Logical Volume Expansion
Online logical volume expansion allows administrators to change
the size of storage volumes as needed without having to restart
the application, recreate the volume, and back up and restore the
data to the volume.
Multilevel
Management
iSCSI' multilevel management capabilities allow the assignment of
different levels of management rights to different storage managers.
This allows, for example, some users or managers to monitor disk
utilization for planning purposes without having the right to actually
change or add actual storage volumes.
Network
Client Support
- Microsoft Windows
- Linux
- UNIX
- Novell Netware 6.5
- Apple OS X
Console
Tools
The iSCSI Enterprise management console allows managers to monitor
the status of the network, drivers and hardware, as well as to view
information about memory usage. They can also control the Ping function,
time settings, and DNS and DHCP configuration. Through the console,
administrators can also change the language in which they run iSCSI.
UPS
Support
An uninterruptible power supply, which provides safe shutdown in
case of power failure, can be attached to an iSCSI Enterprise system
through a standard serial port.
Network
UPS
iSCSI Enterprise also supports the use of UPS to ensure the smooth
shutdown of all iSCSI servers on the network in the case of a power
failure. Using the SNMP interface for communication. the UPS-equipped
server sends (or receives, if working in slave mode) the power failure
signal and will shut down all servers in the network without the
loss of data.
Email
Notification
iSCSI Enterprise can be configured to send email alerts to the system
administrator in case of problems with the iSCSI software.
Log
Function
iSCSI Enterprise allows the storage administrator to transmit error
logs or system logs to aid in diagnostics and troubleshooting.
Target
Password Support
iSCSI Enterpriseallows set up password for targets to protect them
from unauthorized access
10
Gb Ethernet with TCP/IP Offload (TOE)
To improve the data throughput and latency, the iSCSI Enterprise
supports 10 Gbit Ethernet cards from Chelsio for servers and storage
systems. Chelsio provides the highest 10GbE performance available.
With the on-board hardware that offloads TCP/IP processing from
its host system, the Chelsio card lets its host gives more CPU cycles
to applications. The result: the system gets increased bandwidth,
improved overall performance, and reduced message latency across
connections.
Multi-CPU
Support
The Open-E Enterprise version supports up to 8 CPUs to concurrently
execute the Open-E iSCSI. This increases the potential I/O throughput
of the disk server and makes it suitable for heavy duty data requirements.
Fibre
Channel Support
For high bandwidth, best latency and performance, iSCSI Enterprise
version supports Fibre Channel HBA´s of Emulex and Qlogic.
Fibre Channel is the standard connection type for connecting high
speed storage devices, like the iSCSI target, to computers in Storage
Area Networks (SAN).
IP-Sec
The iSCSI Enterprise supports the Secure Internet Protocol (IPsec).
This protocol has been developed to secure data transmitted across
a network, preventing confidential and personal information being
intercepted or modified |
